Swapping 19" mag for 21" spoked on '84 sportster
Hey all,
So I've had months of trying to find a wheel that will work on my bike to no avail. I want to take off the 19" mag wheel on the front and put on a 21" spoked. We found three now that were supposed to fit, (two from online parts stores that have the "guaranteed to fit your bike!" Promise and then actually didn't... the closest one we found was from drag specialties and perfect in every way, but then the brake caliper hit the spokes. Finally I called the Harley dealer service dept and they said I need to just get a custom wheel made. They recommended buchannans and I've been emailing with them but they are slow to respond. The question I'm really looking for the answer to, is - when people go from a mag to spokes and a larger wheel as well, *can* a wheel even theoretically be made to work with my stockbrake system? Or do those of you who do this kind of wheel change, just always end out changing your brake system to fit?

I just dropped the bike off at a shop Sat to get some work done unrelated to wheels, but here are a few photos I had on my phone where you can kind of see how close the caliper is. Buchannans did get back to me with instructions on how to mark the rotor so they know how to design the wheel, so I guess it is possible but wow am I ever surprised at how complicated this is.
