That roller on the arm you see is what drops into grooves when you shift. Here is the drum without the pillow block so you can see the grooves the roller falls into as you shift. 1st is in the 1:00 position then that half groove in the 12:00 position is neutral. Then of course 2-5 are the other grooves/valleys counter clockwise around the drum.
