As you shift from say 5th gear down through the gears what happens is the roller in the first pic comes up out of the valley over the hill and back down into the next valley. Same going into 3rd and then 2nd. Now when your in second the roller only has to go up a half of the next hill to get into neutral. Even less of a hill going from 1st to neutral. That is why it only takes a tap to get into neutral and that is also why it is so hard to find neutral. Hope it's clear as mud now.
