I attached a piece of brass folded chain, anchored to fender washers and screws/nuts on each end. One end in the center of the front of the tour pack, the other on the center of the front of the lid. There's room between the backrest for both screws on the outside. Works great, tucks it self in as you close the lid, doesn't seem to hang up on anything. It's just a tad longer than the tether fully extended.
