After the Crash (25) »

After going to emergency and being treated for minor lacerations of arms hands, face and head, and having contacted the police to file a report as required by insurance, I called the insurance company and filed a claim. They told me to take it to the Harley dealer, but also told me that if it went over 'total', they would just write me a check and take the bike. He told me what 'total' was, as I remember about $9500! I paid $16K for it, and put at least $5K in chrome, and was not about to take it to Harley, as the front end alone, which I knew they would replace and not try to repair, would be $2500 without install! Plus new tins, wheels, tires, lights, cheese grater, wiring, and a complete paint job??? $9500?? Not going to happen! So I checked around local shops, and found one who took the bike and inspected it and told me he could do it for well under $9K, if I would accept a fork repair. As it was just a bend that his machine shop siad they could fix without breaks or welds, I agreed. So the redesign began. This was my new tank design, I took from a 50's era Panhead.
