Step 1 – Complete the programming procedure
- Grab your key fob and turn the ignition key on and off for a total of five passes.
- Your ignition will remain in the "on" position when you are done.
- Press the left-hand turn switch twice. Release it when you are done.
- Press the right-hand turn switch once. Release it when you are done.
- Press and release the left-hand turn switch once.
- Press and hold the key fob button for 10 to 25 seconds or until the programming process is complete.
- Turn ignition key off.

Step 2 – Visit your local dealer
If your bike is equipped with the Smart Security System, you will need to visit a local Harley Davidson dealer to have your key fob(s) professionally programmed. Expect to pay around $45 per key fob. The procedure should take less than an hour, depending on the wait time ahead of you.
Step 3 – Start the bike without the key fob
2007-present Touring bikes are equipped with the Smart Security System, which prevents bike owners from programming their key fob(s) on their own. If you need to start your bike without using your key fob, simply enter your security code per the instructions included in your owner's manual.
