Sneak Preview

Everyone has their own unique personal taste when it comes to pretty much everything in life. And that's exactly why the world of custom Harley-Davidson motorcycles has grown to the extent that it has. So when H-D Forums member TheSSPirate picked up his new FXDLS and proceeded to wax poetic about it, we knew that there was much more to come.

Simple Intentions

This project started out as what TheSSPirate referred to as a "simple" plan. Because, as it turns out, this bike was supposed to be his daily. Just a set of bars, some extended ABS lines, and a few other miscellaneous parts.

Growing List

That original plan didn't last too long, however, before TheSSPirate scored some additional parts. These included a great deal on PM Grips, a Kuryakyn LED taillight, and a full rear fender from a '06 Street Bob. He also picked up a set of Custom Dynamics LED "Switchback" turn signals for good measure.

Brush With Disaster

Unfortunately, things quickly took a turn for the worse when TheSSPirate found himself on the wrong side of the pavement. "Sorry I haven't been replying in the last few days, I got cut off on the road and scraped up the bike a little bit. Broken arm and some road rash but it's all good. Typing takes me a little while as I can only use one hand for now."

Getting Started (Again)

Luckily, TheSSPirate wasn't hurt too badly, and neither was his bike. So while his Harley was in the process of getting fixed up and painted, he was working on getting some parts powder coated. And then, he was finally able to install his 14" Luck Daves San Diego bars.

Plan Comes Together

At this point, the bike was coming back together nicely. The next step was to work on wiring everything up, including a new set of gauges, as well as fine tuning the seating position. TheSSPirate even sprung for a nice Rigid LED light bar, because sometimes you certainly get what you pay for.

Flamed Out

As parts continued to roll in, TheSSPirate got some great news - his bike's fenders and tank came back from the paint shop sporting a killer new flame job. He was quick to defend the old school look, but we were obviously loving it.

Nearing Completion

With a brand new Saddlemen seat on there, this FXDLS was starting to look pretty trick. And, most importantly, it was inching ever closer to being finished and back on the road.

Finish Line

And finally, after many months of hard work and lots of waiting, TheSSPirate's dream daily was complete. Needless to say, he was pretty excited about it, too. "Thanks for the love, everyone. I appreciate it and the bike came out sick! I have a few more things to button up, but it's nice to get out and smash around on it finally."

(Not) the End

One might think that this would spell the end of the build, but that's almost never the case. So be sure and head over here to keep up as this killer Harley continues to evolve into its owner's idea of the ultimate two-wheeler!
