Have You Died and Gone to Hog Heaven?

There are roughly 1,500 Harley dealerships in over 90 countries that are all contributors to the brand's success. That said, all dealerships are not created equal, as each one varies in size, sales, age, staff, and locale. While numerous dealers are great in their own rights, the following slides feature another handful of dealerships that are pretty awesome despite their vast differences.

1. Smokey Mountain Harley-Davidson - Maryville, TN

Perhaps the most mentioned H-D dealership among Harley enthusiasts is Smokey Mountain Harley-Davidson in Maryville, Tennessee. Smokey Mountain is the largest dealership or "Headquarters" in a family of Harley stores located within East Tennessee. Not only is Smokey Mountain the #1 rated dealer in the Knoxville area, but it is only a short ride from arguably two of the best motorcycling roads in Tail of the Dragon and The Cherohala Skyway. Be sure to check out The Shed Smokehouse and Juke Joint that sits adjacent to the dealership, as they regularly have kickin' events on Saturday nights.

2. Doc's Harley-Davidson of Shawano - Bonduel, WI

Doc's Harley-Davidson is a Harley dealership, zoo, museum, and restaurant all rolled into one. Built on a 58 acre piece of land in Wisconsin, the dealership itself features a wide selection of bikes, but is also well known for the work done by the service department overseen by Doc (who professionally races a Top-Fuel Harley). On such a large piece of land, it is said that buffalo, alligators, and kangaroos can be seen roaming the countryside in their zoo-like partitions. Take a tour of the museum that features a number of muscle cars and antique motorcycles, and grab yourself a bite to eat at The Timeline Saloon & BBQ. Overall, this dealership is a really cool place to hang out at while your bike is being serviced, or can simply be visited for an afternoon of fun.

3. Warr's Harley-Davidson - London, UK

On the other side of the pond we have Warr's Harley-Davidson. Having first opened in 1924 , Warr's is said to be Europe's oldest dealer of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, despite a brief stint working with war surplus during WWII. Warr's H-D served as Harley's official UK representation for nearly 30 years, and most recently received the outstanding loyalty and dedication award from the Milwaukee manufacturer. Since 1999, War's has been operating out of a 20,000 square foot building constructed right on top of the original site. Warr's is definitely a cool facility filled with loads of history. If you find yourself on a European vacation, best give this one a visit.

4. Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale - Scottsdale, AZ

The title of World's Largest Harley Dealership has got to go to Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale. Housed in a 150,000 square foot building that extends 60 feet upwards and an additional 90 feet underground, this dealership has it all. Inventory typically sees a hefty 120 bikes on the showroom floor, but an additional 75-100 bikes are often housed on the patio and the onsite warehouse (basement) holds an additional 300 motorcycles below deck. This dealership also features a 48 seat theater that regularly shows movies and Harley-Davidson demo videos. While the service department is downright awesome, the coolest area has to be the audio room that allows individuals the opportunity to hear different exhaust systems fitted to a bike while the exhaust fumes are extracted from the area. Prepare to be amazed by the shear size of this dealership. They don't get much better than this one folks.

5. Dudley Perkins Co. Harley-Davidson - San Francisco, CA

As far as all records indicate, Dudley Perkins Co. Harley-Davidson is the oldest H-D dealership still being run by the original family that first opened the doors. Dudley Perkins Sr. grew up in California racing motorcycles, and when the possibility of a motorcycle dealer partnership arose, he seized the opportunity. After taking sole ownership in 1914, Dudley Perkins Co. Harley was born. Perkins used the dealership as a platform to compete in hillclimbing events on a Harley in which he won 12 California championships in his career that lasted from 1915 to 1943. While the location of the dealership has jumped around half a dozen times over their 100+ years in business, the Perkins family still retains ownership and continues to operate on the principles and values set in place by Dudley Sr. Not only can you expect great service from the staff and management, but they also have a neat little museum with various motorcycles and Harley memorabilia as well as a sweet display of every Harley engine made.

6. Trev Deeley Motorcycles - Vancouver, BC

Trev Deeley Motorcycles of Vancouver is one of Canada's oldest and most distinguished Harley-Davidson dealerships. Known for his success as a Harley-sponsored AMA national flat track racer, Trev Deeley's Harley dealership evolved from his grandfather's and father's Harley dealership that had been in business since 1917. After spending 46 years at their East Broadway location, Deeley Motorcycles moved to their latest Boundary Road facility in 2006. The dealership is a location in itself, but the real treat is the Deeley Motorcycle Exhibition that displays over 250 historically significant motorcycles spanning the last 120 years. Some of the ultra-rare Harley-Davidson bikes include a 1912 Model 8, 1915 11F, 1930 DAH Hillclimber, and a 1997 VR1000. This is arguably one of the finest collections in North America and is definitely worth a day of anyone's time, even if it requires a bit of traveling to get there.

7. Timpanogos Harley-Davidson - Lindon, UT

Timpanogos Harley-Davidson in Lindon, Utah is one of the most unique dealership showrooms that one is likely to come across. Apparently Geneva Steel, a large steel mill built during WWII, used to be across the street from the now Harley-Davidson dealership. It is said that the 58,000 square foot facility was built using salvaged materials from the old steel mill including beams, interior walls, doorways, and partitions which makes it one of the most "green" structures in the United States. The builders could have easily covered the building with fresh paint, or new vinyl siding, but instead left it with a natural patina finish to provide a hardened industrial look that cannot be found elsewhere.

8. Big Barn Harley-Davidson - Des Moines, IA

Sticking with the topic of unique dealership buildings, we have Big Barn Harley-Davidson in Des Moines, Iowa. As the name indicates, this business is located inside of a huge barn, but instead of housing horses, it houses some of Milwaukee's finest hogs. Take a step through the large barn door entrance and you will be greeted with the exposed A-frame ceiling, trusses, and the occasional dormer window typical of a barn or stable. While their inventory may be on the smaller side, the dealership has received positive reviews and has been rated exceptionally well in customer service and sales.
