Custom Vehicle Operations

Catering to the discerning buyer, Harley-Davidson holds back no modesty as it introduces the extravagant 2019 CVO Road Glide FLTRXSE with the bold promotional statement: “From the tip of its shark-nose fairing and new Fang spoiler to its LED taillight, this limited-edition machine is loaded with the kind of custom details that will turn heads and drop jaws wherever it goes.” [Photo credits: HDMC]

Obsessed Design

Founded in 1999, the Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) creates single year, limited-edition, factory customs that are at “the pinnacle” of Harley-Davidson style and design. CVO models feature larger-displacement engines, show-stopping finishes, exclusive components, “and attention to detail that borders on obsessive.”

Unique Nose

Road Glides are unique in the Harley-Davidson line-up for their 'shark nose' frame-mounted fairings. First introduced in 1979 as the Tour Glide, the taller and broader fixed-fairing evolved into the more compact Road Glide by 1998. Chief designer Willie G. Davidson said of the Road Glide that beyond function, the goal was “to have a very clean, simple shape with a beautiful elliptical area for the two headlights.”

Limited Luxury

There is little argument that Harley-Davidson paint and finishes are unmatched in the motorcycle industry. The CVO line-up premium paint and luxury design is no exception. Available in only three finishes, the 2019 CVO Road Glide is shown here in subtle 'Lightning Silver & Charred Steel with Black Hole.'

Winning Throwback

Pictured here is the 2019 CVO Road Glide in stunning 'Red Pepper & Magnetic Grey with Black Hole.' The iconic 'Number One' incorporated as part of the tank graphics acknowledges Harley-Davidson's race history. Designed in 1970 to celebrate winning the AMA Grand National Championship, the 'Number One' is now a quintessential part of the Motor Company's brand.

True to Form

Shifting from black to blue the 2019 CVO Road Glide is true to form with its camouflaged predator of the deep 'Mako Shark Fade' paint. In a nostalgic move, the 'Mako Shark Fade' style is one that automotive buffs will be sure to recognize from custom-car guru Gene Winfield's innovative panel-fade paint-jobs of the 1960s.

Cubic Motorvation

Available only on CVO models, the 2019 CVO Road Glide is powered by most powerful V-Twin ever offered by Harley-Davidson. Accented by 'Blaze Red' Rocker Box Lowers and fed fresh air by a Screamin' Eagle Heavy Breather intake, the 117 cubic-inch Milwaukee-Eight produces a staggering, saddle-punching, 126 ft/lbs of torque at 3750 rpm.

Air It Out

Venting the spent gasses is a set of custom dual exhaust pipes that sandwich an eighteen-inch rear wheel, and a pair of emulsion rear shocks with hand-adjustable pre-load. A process called 'physical vapor deposition' was used to achieve the unique finishes on the 2019 CVO Road Glide exhausts. Originally designed for jewelry applications, the durable but thin coating is applied over the chrome to achieve a stand-out finish in bright sunshine.

High Roller

Out front of the 2019 CVO Road Glide is an exclusive Knockout twenty-one-inch front wheel sporting dual Brembo brakes. No doubt, influenced by custom Bagger designs, the factory-installed twenty-one-inch front wheel is the first of its kind for a Harley-Davidson Touring model. Dual bending valve front suspension adds required control to the plush ride.

Sound it Out

The real star of the 2019 CVO Road Glide is the new Boom! Box GTS with four, Stage II speakers, two in the fairing, and two in the saddlebag lids, that output a combined total of 600 Watts. Input is via an AM/FM receiver, USB-compatible mobile device, or Sirius satellite radio. Bluetooth connectivity and a Wireless Headset Interface Module adds your helmet to the mix and provides hands-free control over a smartphone.

Cockpit POV

Providing vital information up front is a pair of analog clocks. Above the gauges is a device compatible, a color touchscreen that “optimizes the rider's interaction with the bike,” and is responsive through gloves, or in wet conditions. Looking up and over the short, opaque windshield, the 2019 CVO Road Glide is distinctive, menacing, mile-hungry design that cuts through the wind like no other fairing in the world.
