Dynas live again

The Dyna died and many enthusiasts cried out because the platform was such an awesome base for customers all across the world. In 2018 the cruiser line from Harley-Davidson produces motorcycles that carry Dyna-like names, but the new design, known internally as Serengeti, is inspired by, and called, Softail. But thanks to the aforementioned aftermarket fans of the bike can still get their kicks with the range of machines that get produced from the former middle child.

An admirable job

One of those awesome custom creations come by way of NCT all the way up in the eastern Alps of Austria. See, I told you the Dyna gets worldwide appeal. They created this low-slung street carver with a menacing demeanor named "Eleanor."

“We wanted to give the Harley a completely new look,” says shop boss David Widmann, “and move away from the usual styles and color schemes.”

It gets cold up there

The bike first made the journey from sunny California to the workshop in Feldkirchen where it was stripped right down to the bones. Out went the engine and heavy modifications started to take place at the rear of the frame by shop fabricator Manuel Tike. The subframe of the bike now has just enough to support the blue leather solo seat that matches the matching blue logo on the tank, striping, and brake calipers. Speaking of the brakes, the front caliper is Brembo while the rear is a two-piston branded with the "Eleanor" signature.

But this bike is red hot

The tank was taken from another custom that the shop created and all that was needed to make the fit was renewed mounting points. Getting the suspension in order was a whole other story. The factory 49mm aluminum forks were gone and in their place were upgraded Showa USD items. The coilover shocks were tossed out as well in favor of upgraded Ohlins piggybacks.

Profiled in the picture is the Akrapovič muffler for the rear cylinder, and exiting to the right of the rear fender. The stubby front cylinder outlet is low, like just above the bottom frame rails low.

Whatever is needed

The engine has been thoroughly overhauled, but the internals is still stock. But with 1584 cc of capacity, there is no shortage whatsoever of back yanking torque.

The heart powering the electrical system is a Motogadget m.unit control box, which NCT fits to all their custom builds. Another Motogadget feature is the speedo that is fitted flush into the headlight mounting bracket, the front turn signals, and the little push button m switch units sitting on the carbon LSL bars. Galespeed and Rizoma supplied the master cylinders and reservoirs.

To complete this project

The bronze paint laid on the bike compliments the blue and black so well in a way that's simple yet expertly put together. Eleanor serves duty as a showpiece for what NCT is capable of and was one of the headliners at European Bike Week. She just isn't a show queen that only sits on plush carpets as the makeup comes off when it's time to be David's daily rider. “She’s a totally comfortable and powerful bike,” he says.
