1937 Harley-Davidson UN 80

The stunning bike pictured above is a rare example of a 1937 Harley-Davidson UH 80. This was the first year that the U model was produced. It's rare too, just 185 UH 80s were produced in 1937. If you like what you see then it's your lucky day, as this bike is up for auction.

Restored

As you can see, not a penny was spared during this bike's restoration. It helped that the restoration was performed on an original bike that was already in pretty good condition. During the restoration, many of the original parts were chromed.

Powerplant

The U model came into production one year after Harley introduced its famous overhead-valve series of Knuckleheads. This particular model is powered by an 80 CI side-valve medium compression twin. All of its power runs through a 4-speed manual transmission, which is connected to a tank shifter. This bike's engine number is 37UH7421.

Frame Upgrades

The frames on the side-valve models were reinforced along their backbones, at the transmission mounting bracket, and the bushings in their seat posts. These upgrades gave the rider better control, however, this was a one-year-only frame.

Engine Upgrades

The engines on these models received some nice upgrades for 1937. A recirculating oil system was used, as well as dry-sump lubrication, which helped these knuckleheads run much cooler. The end result was a bike that was much more comfortable to ride and had improved reliability.
