Some Points to Keep you on Track

Family-Friendly

The Harley-Davidson Museum is family-friendly, and that is music to my ears. A walk through the Harley-Davidson museum is literally a walk through the history of America. With an unrivaled collection of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and memorabilia, a 20-acre, park-like campus, and a calendar full of activities, the H-D Museum is one of Milwaukee’s top tourist destinations for visitors from around the globe. The Harley-Davidson Museum website is extremely easy to navigate, but here are some of the highlights if you want to come with your kids, your students, or even your Boy Scouts troop.

Discovery and Imagination

The Discovery Drawers are full of vintage type toys to spark creativity for the youngsters. The goodies range from tin motion toys to police dress up clothes, allowing them to look into the past on their level. The Imagination Station suits up your little future rider in size-appropriate gear. After riding gear is donned, they can hop on the kid-sized Knucklehead. Hands-on activity abounds with games, books, puzzles, Build-a-Bike, and more. Even the youngest visitors can find something to rev up in here.

Evel Knievel's Daredevil Challenge

One of my personal favorites is the Evel Video Games. Here is where Evel Knievel’s Daredevil Challenge is calling for you to come and be the daredevil you and your kids always wanted to be. The youngsters can try out their skills and see how far their luck goes with the interactive arcade. Share your love of this classic hero with the kids. Think they may want to jump big rigs or shark tanks one day? Let them try it out at the H-D Museum before things get too real (flashbacks to roof jumping).

Youth Groups Welcome

Not only does the museum offer pint-size exhibits for the future riders of Harley, but they also encourage learning with school-age children. Under the Youth Group tab, there is an entire section on incentives to refuel the passion in your student’s learning.  It gives the students a way to see learning through the eyes of the Motor Company. The kids can see first-hand the history and culture that H-D has created. The design and engineering that brings the bikes to life are also at their fingertips. This program offers group and chaperone discounts. The learning agenda is laid out on the website. The kids are sure to enjoy learning with the educational activities and specifically designed tours. Not only does the museum experience for students take learning to a different level, but you can also find PDFs, broken down by age, that are available for download to bring the learning back home or back to the classroom.

Merit Badge Worthy

Just when you think it could not get any cooler, you read on to see the Boy Scout Engineering Merit Badge Activity. It seems as Arthur Davidson was active with the Boy Scouts and this opportunity seems to go hand and hand with the innovative thinking of a good scout. What better place to take a look at the engineering aspect of Harley-Davidson? The badge activity can be done via a self-guided or a guided tour option. There are special rates that are listed on the website. Cameras are always encouraged but don’t forget your Boy Scout Merit Badge Activity Booklet!
