Even More Stuff

Those who have been to the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee are already well aware that there's a lot to do and see, from cool motorcycles to artifacts, memorabilia, and other interesting tidbits from the company's long and rich history. However, there isn't room there to show off everything MoCo has in its collection, which means that the HD Museum's vault is chock full of even more cool stuff, it seems.

Vast Majority

Amazingly, only around five percent of the Harley-Davidson Museum's collection is on display at any given time, with the rest being stashed in the vault. Recently, RideApart got the chance to tour this hidden collection of sorts, getting a behind-the-scenes look at what is a truly mind-boggling array of motorcycles, specifically.

Big Space, Lots of Bikes

That includes, it seems, stacks and stacks of motorcycles, which are lined up vertically thanks to a special series of racks designed to squeeze as many as possible into a tight space. It all encompasses around 10,000 square feet of space, which Harley has opened up to the public periodically in the past.

Massive Array

There, one will also find an array of prototype bikes, vintage parts, engines, photographs, brochures, and a wide range of riding gear, with period pieces like goggles and belts lying around everywhere. There are even old t-shirts and folk art, as well as inventions like a helmet with a brake light built into it.

Visitor Info

Today, those who wish to visit the Harley-Davidson vault can do so as well, via two options - the "Beyond the Gate" tour, which is hosted for an extra cost of $40 per person on Saturdays at 10:30 am, or the VIP Tour, which is $135 per person and includes a guided tour of the vault with a museum curator or archivist. VIP Tours are hosted on the first Friday of every month, while both of these special tours can also be booked for private groups as well.
