Limited Edition 30th Anniversary Fat Boy Celebrates Model's Iconic Status

Birthday Celebration

The Fat Boy has become a rather iconic model in Harley-Davidson lineup, both for its good looks and famous appearance in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. It's hard to believe, but the Fat Boy is now three decades old, which means that it's time for a proper special edition. And H-D has obliged with the new 30th Anniversary Fat Boy.

Dark Vibes

This limited edition mid-year addition to Harley's lineup is somewhat of a reinterpretation of that famous original movie bike, one that comes in every color you could possibly want so long as it's Vivid Black. The rest of the bike helps maintain that super dark vibe with plenty of black and bronze accents.

Birthday Boy

The birthday boy is powered by Harley's familiar Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine, which itself sports a few nice details and bronze accents. Production of this attractive ride is limited to 2,500 units, and each one is individually numbered with a plate located on the fuel tank console.

Retro Modern

In true Fat Boy fashion, the 30th Anniversary model is rather beefy, with wide satin black Lakester disc aluminum wheels holding equally wide 160mm front and 240mm rear tires. It's also quite modern, however, which is evident from touches like the LED headlamp in a newly shaped nacelle.

Decked Out

The M8 114 is the largest engine you can get in a Softail these days, and this one's decked out in gloss black engine covers and bronze-tone lower rocker covers and timer cover script. The Black Onyx exhaust is reportedly quite durable, and also shows the chrome that lies beneath the finish in direct sunlight for a very cool effect.

Unique and Exclusive

"The Fat Boy took the look, proportions, and silhouette of a 1949 Hydra-Glide motorcycle and completely modernized it for a new generation of riders," said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson’s vice president of Styling and Design. "Each of these elements was captured in the new 2018 version of the Fat Boy model. For this 30th Anniversary model we wanted to create something very special, so we leaned into the popularity of darker finishes and a limited run/serialized strategy to make the bike truly unique and exclusive."

Enduring Success

The 30th Anniversary Fat Boy starts out at $21,949, but buyers can easily tack on a few grand to that price with some available Screamin' Eagle upgrades. Regardless, we doubt that Harley will have any trouble selling these special bikes, which pay tribute to one of the biggest big-screen successes they've ever produced.
