68-year Old Racing Grandma
Motorcycle racing is a high risk, physically demanding sport, continuing to engaged in the sport as you start to get gray hair is unusual. So if asked a grandmother who had recently retired what sort of hobby she wanted to pursue, and she said she wanted to race motorcycles, what would you say to her? Mardelle Peck had ridden motorcycles occasionally most of her life, but it wasn't until she was 65 they she entered a road race on a sport bike. 90-year Old's Surprise Birthday Ride
Stella Sarandis was picked up by her son Billy supposedly to head for a sedate 90th birthday party at the local church. Instead he pulled into a parking lot of a local club, where a bunch of motorcycle were hanging out. David Owen and his wife Donna outfitted Stella with a black helmet sporting a pink pony tail, wraparound lenses and matching do-rag for her ride, and helped her onto a Harley-Davidson trike. 90-year Old Still Rides
At 90 years old, Gloria Struck is one of the most active elderly motorcyclists in the world. She was one of the original Motor Maids, back in the 1940s, and still rides a Harley. She rides regularly, and not just to the corner market, but to bike rallies such Sturgis and Daytona, all the way from her home in New Jersey. She is shown here completing a ride to Daytona Bike Week in Florida at age 87. Gloria says she is determined to ride cross-country on her 100th birthday. 93-year Old Bucket List Ride
On a bright summer day, 93-year old grandmother Mildred Garrison fulfilled her lifetime dream of riding on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. A non-profit known as Wish of a Lifetime partnered with the Brookdale senior living residence to make Mildred's dream possible. Mrs. Garrison rode for approximately 20 minutes, and when she returned she said, "I still haven't got over the excitement yet. I could have gone some more." You can see more about her ride here.
100-year Old's Life-Long Ambition
Back in March of 2008, 100-year old Muriel Woolner (Nobbie to her friends) of Bude, Cornwall, U.K. was taken for a ride around her hometown for her 100th birthday. Those closest to here say she is something of a "speed freak". Her doctor forced her to give up skateboarding at the age of 75, but she taught dancing and fitness until age 82. Riding a Harley was indeed on her bucket list, and for her centennial she was picked up by some local bikers and taken for a spin, along with two of her elderly friends. 105-year Old Get Birthday Ride
If you are fortunate enough to live to be 105 and still walking and talking, you are blessed. Age didn't stop Ella Passmore from trying something new things though - like riding on a Harley-Davidson of her birthday. Okay, she just took a ride on the back of a trike, but still she got the opportunity to feel the power of a V-twin and the wind in her face.
