Razor Nails

Despite being discontinued in North America, the Breakout is still a Harley-Davidson bestseller. Wildly popular in Australia and Europe, the drag race-inspired machine blazes on as the ride of choice for enthusiasts, while dealerships like Germany's Thunderbike have hammered out a rock-solid reputation for building custom Breakouts. 'Razor 3.0,' their latest iteration, absolutely nails it home.

Accessory Series

Razor 3.0 is the third build in a series that sharpens and stretches the stock Breakout's curvy figure. With parts from their own accessory catalog, Thunderbike's custom shop is forging a style all their own. They state, “Our handmade custom tank, nose spoiler, seat and rear fender from our GP-series gives this Softail model a meaningful new line.”

Choice Makeover

Form and function intersect nicely on the Thunderbike build. With some interpretation in the German to English translation, they add, “It quickly becomes clear what this is all about: performance! And not just visually.” All the GP-Style parts found on Razor 3.0 are essentially bolt-on. Mixed with a few choice Harley-Davidson accessories, the radical makeover is available to any Breakout fan.

Workshop Look

One of the cool, but not readily apparent custom touches is the right to left side brake swap. The modification was achieved with a Thunderbike 'Pulley Brake Kit.' The catalog description states, “With this drive system you have a free look to the right side of the wheel. Swingarm, wheel, brake disc, and pulley will be modified in our workshop.”

Screamin' Grunt

The Breakout was among the models that were included in Harley-Davidson's progression to the new Softail chassis in 2018. Initially equipped with either a 107 or 114 cubic-inch Milwaukee-Eight, the larger displacement motor became standard in 2020. Thunderbike fitted a Screamin’ Eagle Heavy Breather to the Razor 3.0 and tweaked the mapping for a little extra grunt.

Sexy Killer

For a custom race touch, the welded stainless steel pipes were supplied by German exhaust experts at Kess Tech. Thunderbike states, “The exhaust system...is not only extremely sexy and makes a great sound, but it also fits perfectly into the performance concept.” The race-inspired pipes are also a perfect match for the killer panel paint job by Chiko’s Pinstriping in Pforzheim, Germany.

Muscular Stance

Razor 3.0 gets an attitude adjustment courtesy of a 'Triple Tree Grand Prix' from the Thunderbike catalog. The CNC-machined billet aluminum clamp adds three degrees of rake and drops the front of the bike for a more aggressive stance. It neatly builds on Harley-Davidson's description of the Breakout, as a “long, lean and mean... muscular modern chopper that turns stoplights into drag strips.”

Talented Hands

From parking lot posing to street-shredding, the overall ride height is controlled by a 'Slamtail Suspension Kit.' For an even more beefy cross-section, the already plump factory-installed back tire was swapped out for a wider 260mm option. It might be discontinued here, but the Breakout shows no signs of stopping overseas, especially in the hands of talented customizers.
