The 5 Harleys That I Personally Wish I Had

America's favorite motorcycle company is has some financial woes right now, but there are some things that we think should be eternal, and Harley-Davidson is definitely one of them. Let's look back at some of our favorite factory Harley models.

Harley-Davidson, dream list, all time
2002 VRSCA V-Rod
1958 Duo-Glide Panhead
1983 XR-1000
2017 Street 750

2006 VRSCSE2 Screamin' Eagle V-Rod

The Screamin' Eagle V-Rod has great classic looks, combine with wonderful, modern functionality and power. It came in three different color combinations, all of them awesome, but I'll take mine in Harley black and orange racing livery. Additionally, it had excellent handling and the brawny Revolution engine that made it a joy to maneuver through traffic.

2002 VRSCA V-Rod

This model is reminiscent of Harley’s drag racing past, with its long and low design. The modern Revolution V-Twin has 115 hp at 8,250 rpm, generating so much power that the rear wheel could be spun exactly like in a dragster launching. As a matter of fact, the 2002 VRSCA V-Rod was the basis of Harley's current drag racing program. Stock, it has a top speed of 140 mph, which is amazing for a cruiser. A few years later, the V-Rod Destroyer factory produced drag bike (unfortunately not street legal) based on this one was making 165 hp, and running sub-10 second quarter miles.

1958 Duo-Glide Panhead

The 1958 Duo-Glide was the first Harley big twin model to add in a true rear suspension, and thusly brought joy to riders everywhere. If you happen to be able to ride one of these, you can adjust the suspension pre-load to two-up, heavy rider, or solo. There is also a sprung seat carried over from the hard tail that brought the worlds of old and new together on this bike. This is one of the most rideable classic Harley, if you plan on doing more than just bar hopping.

1983 XR-1000

For the price of seven grand, which was a lot back in 1983, the XR-1000 came with a wallop in the performance department as well as the wallet. Those who could actually afford the bike got to enjoy an OHV V-twin 998cc engine that had a top speed of 112 mph, and a good dose of XR-750 flat track bike baked right in. If you are a fan of the Harley dirt racing tradition, this bike is usually one of your top dream bikes.

2017 Street 750

The Street 750 has a nice ultra low seat that helps the bike feel light and maneuverable with great neutral steering. A clean sheet design give the bike double the amount of suspension travel compared to the Sportster with 3.5 inches of rear wheel travel from a pair of adjustable shocks and 5.5 of travel from the fork in the front. The liquid cooled SOHC four valve Revolution X engine is based on what was learned in the V-Rod projects, and produces about as much power as a 1200cc Sportster, but only at 8,000 rpm. The Street 750 is the perfect everyday bike for a Harley fan who just needs to get to work/school/shops.
