Who has had a Garmin Nuvi Mounted on their Harley
Looking for folks that have had a Garmin NUVI GPS mounted on a touring bike. How long have you had it on there and how has it held up.

Please no; the zumo is better , get another kind, I have read all the post about the Zumo and the 2610, quest, quest2, and the 2720 ETC, and I may end up with one of those units, But I am looking for folks that have run the NUVI and how well it has held up. Just trying to complete my research befor I purchase.

I am not sure which NUVI you are thinking about but a friend of mine just got the NUVI 650 for his car and although it is a nice slim, wide screen unit I would not think it would do well on a bike.
The way the mounting bracket attaches to the unit looks like it could fail with a bump or vibration and it is not waterproof. For the car is looks like it will be great.
Notice I did not say my ZUMO 550 is what I would suggest

I am buying the nuvi 270 for me. The 270 off amazon is preloaded with us and euro maps. But I was not going to mount it. it is small enough that the unit can go in my window pouch or the wife can hold it on the inside of her vest pocket. It last for 4 or 5 ours they say. but I can charge it with the cig lighter on the fairing.
I ended up with a Nuvi 200 (CHEAP) because OL wouldnt let me spring for a better one. Have had it 6 months. I mount it on the handlebar when we are out riding for a 1/2 day or so. Not for short trips. It has stood up great. The only complaint I have is the mounting. I ended up getting a Ram mount with a Tomtom ONE cradle. 15 minutes with a dremel, and it holds the Nuvi perfectly. It is stable and tight. Alot better than that "ball" mount the Nuvi's have.
I use my Garmin Nuvi 660 on my Street Glide with the suction cup on the gas door. Never had it come off. Might not be good for 20' under water for 30 min. but neither am I. It started to rain & I un- clipped it & stuck it in my glove box in my lowers, felt lined & didn't even need to slow down. I will make a permanent mount this winter. Yes it's raining to day & in the 60's (California storm watch). Time to break out the dirt bike.

I HAVE A NUVI 350. I BOUGHT THIS ONE BECAUSE IT IS SMALL AND A PERFECT UNIT FOR CARS. WHILE I REALIZED IT IS NOT WATERPROOF AND GARMIN DOESN'T MAKE A MOUNT FOR A BIKE..I BOUGHT IT ANYWAYS. IT'S SMALL ENOUGH TO FIT IN MY POCKET AND I ALWAYS PREPLAN MY ROUTES IN THE MORNING USING A MAP. WHEN I GET CLOSE TO MY DESTINATION I USE IT TO LOCATE MOTELS. DURING THE DAY I USE IT TO FIND GAS AND FOOD IF I'M HAVING TROUBLE ON ONE OF MY ROUTES. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A UNIT FOR A BIKE CHECK OUT GARMINS SITE.
GOOD TRAVELS AND REMEMBER...IT'S NOT THE DESTINATION...IT'S THE JOURNEY!

I have a NUVI 350 anda 2720. I originally got the NUVI as a gift from my wifefor Christmas last year, but after I got it and tried it on the bike the screen was very hard to seein sunlight. I called Garmin to see if they offered any sort of glare shield and was told by them that the NUVI was not designed for use on a motorcycle because it wouldn't be able to handle the vibration.
So not wanting to chance it with a gift from the wife, I bought the 2720 for the bike and keep the NUVI in my truck. The NUVI is great for point to point directions although not so good for planning a trip with numerous way points like you can do with some of the other models.

I have the Nuvi 350 and also have mounted on gas lid with a tether. I did see in a previous post
a website that makes different mounts for alot of GPS units.
Check the link below:

I found several mounts that will work nicely. Hope the info helps.
Oh, by the way...most GPS units are not water proof.....but the shock thingy that they mention,
is not completely correct. Unless you plan on off-roading alot...then the gps might not even
stay on the bike. But for normal hwy or local driving, I have had no problem. Remember,,the
unit is solid state with LCD display......which, as mentioned above...is somewhat hard to see
in direct sunlight.
Good Luck...
