Cleaning My Sporty - Just Use The Garden Hose?
Hello Everyone!
This lovely Christmas Eve my son and I took a long ride today as it was a sunny but chilly day. We went north and found that the roads where still a bit wet from the rain yesterday and that led to roadsalt'ed water getting all over both of our bikes.
My bike is a 2007 1200C. Took receipt of it toward the end of October and have been hand cleaning after rides but now I have need to give it a good washing as it is covered in road salt. I did opt for the Zyillion (sp?) treatment when I ordered and took deliver of my bike.
How best to go about this. Am I OK to get out the garden hose and give it a once over? Anything that I should avoid getting wet? I have a leaf blower to dry it with after I am done.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I plan to wash it tomorrow morning after we open gifts for Christmas.
Thanks in advance!
Dave

-Five gallon bucket of HOT soapy water(car wash soap)
-Sheep skin mit
-long supersoft synthetic dusting brush
-old 100% soft cottonundershirts that you have ripped apart to remove sewn seams
-multi spray garden hose nozzle
-leaf blower/shop vac
Soak bike with hose set on gentle spray, get every thing painted or chromed really wet and allow it to soften the grime.
Start from the top- soak mit in hot soapy water and begin GENTLY washing.....make sure to return mit to wash water often to rewet and flush out dirt. Keep garden hose in other hand and lubricate mit as you go using light, gentle spray....use long duster in hard to reach areas keeping it soaped as needed-work your way down and rinse what you've done above....don't bare down on bug spots, let the soap and water soften them and just keep washing them with mit or soapy tee shirt piecetill they are gone.
Blow that sucker off and go get it dirty again.
you can use your shop vac tosuck dry items like socket head bolts.....just tape a length of 1/2 soft plastic tubing to the hoseand fish it into the hard to reach places. Be careful using air compressor and nozzel to dry cause you can blow water into electrical connections that would otherwise be rain tight
P.S......When the bike is otherwise clean but you want to remove afingerprints and maybe a few bugs, soak a scrap of old cotton tee shirt with lemon pledge then gently wipe her down...Follow up with cleandry tee shirt scrap-or you can use those expensive micro fibre towels if you want......Lemon Pledge is wonderful stuff and will not hurt your paint or chrome.

I use the Mr Clean AutoDry carwash system. Works great! Fast and easy. I use my leaf blower to dry it.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think I might make a trip to KMart to get a few supplies (only place open tomorow in my area) and clean her up. Heck, maybe I'll post a pic after I'm done
Have a great Christmas everyone!
