Dead Center Fairing Questions
A couple questions on buying a Dead Center fairing for my 08 RKC:
Dragonfly Concepts states that fiberglass fades through the paint on fairings over time. Anyone with the Deadcenter fairing have issues with the fiberglass fading through the paint?I want to get the Deadcenter fairingbecause of the lock, though I like the Dragonfly better, but Dragonfly has me worried about the durability of the fiberglass products.
Are there any mounts available for storing fairings when their are not on the bike?I've seen a wallmount somewherethat holds both a windshield and a luggage rack. Haven't found one for a fairing, though.
All the fairings I've seen seem to extend over the handlebar clamp. Would this be a problem for stock handlebars?
How do the speakers sound compared to the stock HD fairing speakers? Better, same, worse?
I'm 5'11". What size windshield do you guys with the Dead Center fairing recommend that would allow me to look over the windshield and not through it?
Most importantly, do you ever use your windshield again? I'd hate to see a good windshield go to waste.
Thanks.

Albany

I have NEVER heard any Dragonfly fairings with a lock.
The lock is ONLY on DCC. And they are VERY Reliable... I've never even heard Willem @ DCC mention a single word about "ANY" competitors fairing so, from that stand point I'm of the impression Dragonfly is talking down DCC.... I totally disagree with this type of sales tactics' PERIOD.
DCC has a 100% satisfaction Guarantee....

I'm sure you could adapt the windshield mount some how.

I've not had any problem with stock bars or any extending you mention. It does go over it a bit but not enough to bother putting in the fork locking key.

You will have to measure the windshield all people are built differently reguardless of height.
Never re-used my old windscreen.

RE: Dead Center Fairing Questions
Lord Albany,
I have a Dead Center fairing and my buddy has a Dragonfly. I don't think there is a quality difference with the paint. They both seem to be quality products. I like the fact that mine is easier to take off, but the Dragonfly comes off pretty easy as well. Don't let the lock fool you...four nutts and mines gone easily. The sound from the Dragonfly seems better, but the dash set up on the Dead center seems better.
I don't think the bars should be an issue, it seems to me any bars would work with either fairing.
I'm 5'11" also and used to use a 7" clear, but I just put on a new 4" from Wind Vest that has a nice curve on top. It works just as well as my old 7" but looks alot better. Mine is the first one installed on a bagger and I'm running it to let him know how it works. My buddy is running the 6" and likes it. I think they said they're also going to have an 8". I don't know anything about pricing so you'll have to contact them about that.
If you want some pics of both fairings and the new windshields I'll take some pics tomorrow and post'em.

RE: Dead Center Fairing Questions
TSJA,
I agree with you on the look of the DCC fairing looking better than the Dragonfly. Are the heights of the two fairings, minus the windshields, the same?
I get what you said about the boltsholding the fairings to the bike. If that's the case, what benefit does the lock provide the DCC fairing? Other than forcing a theif to have to remove the bolts.
What makes yours easier to remove from the bike? I've seen the pics of the mounts but can't determine which is easier.I guess it only matters for being able to quickly change setups, if its ever necessary.
I guess I will have to just test out different windshields to determine the right height for me.
Looking forward to and really appreciate any pics you can provide. Did you guys go for the painted inner and outer shells? I'm thinking when I buy I'll go for the stock look - painted outer, black inner.
Sound: Is the sound on the Dragonfly better because of the size of the speakers, or could it just be the quality/brand of the DCC speakers? Is it a big difference while riding? How would you say the DCC speakers compare to thestock SG/EG speakers? Are the DCC speakers easy to upgrade?
Thanks,
Albany

I'm not sure, but they are close. I do know the windshield slot on the Dragonfly is a little different than the stock Harley one...it needs just a little minor trimming.

It holds the fairing on whether it is locked or not.

Without the bra's on, The Dragonfly takes a wrench. Mine...slips into your stock windshield mount and you push a button that holds the locking mechanism.

I really liked the way my 7" clear worked, but this 4"er seems to work just as well and looks better. Test everyone anyone will let you test.

I'll take the pics today after work. His is Black Cherry out and black in. Mine is Black and Black.

I think the Dragonfly sounds better because we pulled it apart and stuffed it with some sound insulation...at least it sounds much better since we did that. His does sound better at 70+. I haven't heard a stock SG/EG system. All my friends have modified them in one way or another. The speakers should be easily changeable.
