Default Digital multimeter with inductive pickup for checking idle speed $84.99

I know that some of the members in the past were looking for a multimeter to test engine RPM with an inductive pickup that did not cost an arm and a leg. Well I had been looking for one and found one on the website below for $84.99 + S&H of 7.78 for a total of $92.77. This is the best I have found. Others cost an additional $200.00 more. I ordered one and will let everyone know how it is when I get it. Here is some info on the meter.

Default RE: Digital multimeter with inductive pickup for checking idle speed $84.99

I got the multimeter yesterday and it works great. Very easy to use and looks like a fluke but a lot cheaper. The inductive pickup is good quality and even has an adjustment for high to low sensitivity. The RPM can be used with 4 stroke, 2 stroke/DIS(waste spark), and has two ranges 600-3200 rpm and 0600-12000 rpmX10. The digital display has 4 places and the analog bar gragh works hand in hand with the digital readout. I am very happy with this product and for the price it is a steal. After doing the SE A/C stage 1 kit, slip on samson mufflers, and the carb mods found in the DIY section my bike was idling @ around 1150 rpm at operating temp. I adjusted the idle down to 1000 rpm and the engine speed sounds like it should now. I knew before that I was idling high but didn't know how bad and I did not want to adjust the idle by ear and have it so low that it would cause a low speed oiling problem. Everything is good now. I recommend this multimeter to anyone looking for a tool they can use to adjust their idle with and not pay an arm and a leg for it. Peace.

SJ12DS, Thanks for the info! I've been looking for a meter like that. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. First, does the meter check RPM on any engine, i.e. - 1cyl, 2cyl, 3 cyl and up? Also, does this meter have any kind of warranty? Thanks...

Hog_fever, it works on all cylinders It reads the pulse and you do not have to select the number of cylinders like you have to on some of the older models. It comes with a year warranty I believe. I will double check the warranty when I get home and if it is different I will post it for you. Glad you like the info, I knew there were other members looking for a good meter cheap and to me this is a really good meter for the price.

Hi Mark, just wanted to let you know that when you do the RPM check you might have to flip the inductive pick-up over and it tells you this in the manual that comes with the meter. Just didn't want you to think that the meter is broken if at first you don't get a signal. I think you will like the meter and be suprised at the quality of it. Good luck and let me know what you think.

James

OK, thanks for the heads up. Had a timing light like that, where the pickup had to be attached properly to work.

Well I have to say this thing works great. At first, I couldn't get any reading and I thought I bought junk. But re-reading this post about having to flip the inductive pick-up over, it worked great. I did read the directions, however that didn't jump out at me. They should write that part in red.
