Default se 254e cam swap

I am pulling the trigger on the se 254e cams. Putting an order in for them on Monday. I decided to do the work myself since the stealership told me they would charge me over 900.00 to do the work. I can do it for under 400.00 and have the pride and gain the knowledge upon doing it myself. Hope to get started by next weekend. Stay tuned for updates....

I am just totally amazed at the variance dealers charge for cam swaps. Down here in the Madison (WI) area, dealers quote 3.5-4hrs@$58-70 hr. Add cams $240(after 20% off) and gaskets ($60), you're looking at approx $600. Good luck with your project...

Take some pics along the way to document the job if you can?

I see you've got the Thundermax Auto Tune, Ness AC and Fullsac True Dual, how did you land on this particular cam choice?

This cam is slightly more agressive than the 255 and from what I can tell it creates power longer through the rpm range I ride in. I have talked to several people that have put in the 255 and were happy but they say they could have gone a little bigger. Others I talked to hated the 255. One mechanic at the local dealership recommended the 254e over the 255 as well.

I was quoted 5 hours @ $95/hr plus tax to install SE255's at the local stealership.

I'm holding off till my warranty runs out this summer and will have an indy help me get it done at a much better price...

I have not done the 254e but it was recommend by a local indy. So i am curious as to your results. Also how do you like your thundermax? I have one but have not installed it yet as i am waiting to put on more miles prior.

My thundermax is probably the best thing I have done on my bike so far. Runs much stronger and cooler, the installation is pretty straight forward and you can get great phone support from zippers if you get lost during the setup. But if you follow the directions line by line its almost foolproof.

You said it Bro, I was bored on Saturday morning, so grabbed a coffee and took my 4 year old(startin him young) down to my selling dealer. Well, I fell in love with the Vivid Black Ultra limited(2011) they had sittin right in the front entrance. $27,739.00 before freight, pdi, and taxes. Wow...think I'll hang on to my 2008 Street Glide for awhile. Then I wandered into service, and asked if they still have any winter performance specials. Quoted me $2,534.00 taxes in, for a stage II 103 with the 255 cams,no heads, installation, gaskets, every thing included. He was even nice enough to discount me another $221.00 for the HD download cause I already have the SEST. What a great guy. I don't know what the prices are down in the U.S., but whenever u leave an HD dealer up here in Canada, the first call you make is the the rape crisis centre. Just my .02...
