Default Normalizing MP3 loudness or gain

Does anyone have a suggestion for making an entire library of MP3s have the same or similar volume level?

I would prefer a Linux solution, but could use a windows based one as well.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

MP3 Gain is a free download. Works nicely with MP3 tag. There are some old threads on here discussing it.

Mp3 gain is the program I use.
It is user friendly and let's you adjust the gain in the recording once it is down loaded on a PC.
The program will also let you know if the file is clipping

Can I give it an entire library at one time, or do I have to go file by file?

Is there a better way to rip MP3's? I used Windows Media player previously and don't think I had the same issue as i am now using Rhythmbox on Linux.

You can do everything in a folder all at one time.

Agreed MP3Gain. Start out by setting Target Normal Volume to 93 dB.

Bertk,

93 Db, I like the way you think, seems most are settling on 89 Db!

So I can just put in for example c:/jj/music and let her rip? Do I have to specify a destination directory, if not, will it overwrite the MP3s where they are? Thoughts?

You can simply drag the files or folder into MP3Gain and run track analysis and track gain. The changes are saved within the file. There is a undo option.

Bertk,

What if tracks show that they are clipping?

Do I adjust track gain or album gain?

There are several reasons a track will show clipping. Best thing to do is listen to the song and judge for yourself.
