Is it worth buying?

The seller, being in the motor vehicle business, should not have a problem with you taking it to a dealer for a mechanical and safety inspection. When it's there they can check out the VIN to look for any red flags. The price seems reasonable, and even if you can get it for less (definitely try to negotiate) it's worth the $100 or so the HD dealer would charge you.

It's a good deal and I believe it was a trade in. Most auto dealers wouldn't mess with buying a bike at an auction and then put it on a car lot.
If a dealer sells it then they are required to sell it with good tires. Have them replace the tires at the harley dealer for the same price and ride it home.

I agree with the first statement here. I've never heard of a car lot buying a bike from auction. Seen quite a few taken in on trade. They work their number magic and the poor guy who traded it in got $50 for it.
I have never heard the second statement ever. Maybe there is some laws in your state that say that?
Like Nathan said if the tire was underinflated it won't last long.
Lots of times car lots won't do any work on a motorcycle to sell it. Try for tires of course to get a better deal. If not maybe they will go down on price because of the tires.

4600 miles? there's nothing wrong with the bike, worn tire? everyone's opinion on when to replace a tire is different, I run them until they are bald, some people only run them to the marks, running a bike hard will wear the tires faster. Anyone who gets 15k out of a tire babies the bike.
they price is really good, you'll pay at least $2k more at a dealer. I don't understand why people trade Harleys in at car lots, they can get more at a dealer. I think car lots sale them cheap just to unload them.

i don't think its crappy roads so much, its more about how you ride those crappy roads.....my stock dunlops were pretty hard and did last longer than the avons....but no comparison for handling and ride quality...
