First step I suggest is to use single-rate springs matched to your weight. Race Tech do indeed make suitable springs and have a calculator on their website. An additional aid are Ricor Intiminators, which improve damping.

Racetech also has their emulator.. It's a pretty good 2 speed compression damping valve.. Definitely should switch to single rate springs.. Ricors might be good if used on a wheelie bike as they use a lighter oil which will kill rebound damping.. Bet they bottom when the front comes down..

I have Emulators but am not impressed, I can't recommend them. Intiminators get good reviews especially in the Touring section, hence my suggestion.

So you haven't compared the 2?

I've used emulators a number of times.. I've not hit a home run on the first build tho.. They typically need a little tweaking.

Not in the same bike, no. I'm interested to know what adjustments you made to improve yours, the instructions they come with are not much help!

I have my emulators at 3.5 turns, Race tech springs, with 15 wt oil.
They work good. I have 11.5 black trackers on the back.
I can hit a square edged bump, and don't know it till the back hits.

Some of the way they get set up is based on the bike.. Like 06-up EG / RG forks are different than other forks.. Early ones are all close.. From what I've seen but have only seen a few...

With those 2 to 4 holes in the tophat, straight wound springs based on rider / cycle weight, 15-20 wt oil and 3 turns on a gold hat spring. I used their default oil height.. Sag about 1 1/4 inches.. Don't lower the forks.

I installed the RaceTech emulator/spring kit on my FXDWG about 13 years ago and have been pleased with its performance. Noticeably better ride and handling and a big reduction in nose dive compared to the primitive HD non-damped fork design the bike came with.

Can't remember what I did to get it setup right since it has been so long ago... Do remember using 15 weight fork oil. The kit lowered the front of the bike a little over an inch. Seem to recall that I called RaceTech and they helped advise me on how to adjust everything.
