Default Mini sissy bars vs fender rack for FXDWGI?

I'm looking for either a permanent mini sissy bar mount, or preferably a removable system. I travel light, but I need something to attach a small travel bag to my 2006 WG.

Anyone have any experience with the small bobtail fender rack that HD sells? Is there enough space to attach a bag with lanyards? This looks like it may be the best solution for me. I don't ride with passangers, so the sissy bars would be only for securing a bag.

Look forward to any suggestions.

I have the stock sissy bar and bobtail fender rack on my 05, it works great. I bought a t-bag set and the straps go down around the rear turn signal mounts. I like the setup.

tell me what you think-if I am not taking much with me, would I be able to use just the bobtail fender rack with some lanyards?

Ok, I am an idiot, but what is a "lanyard"?

I can say that the nice thing about the bobtail rack for the 06 in that it comes off with ony a few screws. Therefore, if you don't need it on, the bike still looks clean.

I went with the tiny "butt bumper" sissy bar and a fender rack on my '06 DWG. I've got a Saddleman Saddle-Stow roll bag that I can attach to the rack and sissy bar, or if I am riding solo, to the seat and sissy bar. I guess "lanyards" are what we call bungee cords. Yeah, you can attach stuff to the rack, but it's limited by size. If you order one, make sure you get the right one, because the fender is different on '06 models.

I would say so, if it isn't too big. I also have the spider web bungee cord deal and it is good for some things...

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I rather like the clean look of the bobtail fender rack for the 2006 WG. I think I will go that route. Kury has some nice roll bags that should strap on without difficutly. I guess if I need to later, I can always add a sissy bar.

Did you install the rack yourself? Was it easy?

I like the look of the rear fender and went back and forth on putting a rack on it. Finally the folddown rack from Kuryakyn, mounts on back of sissy bar. Folds down and I can fit the big tbag helmet bag on it. Otherwise folds up and magnets hold it and you just see the fender. Magnets were too light so i added some more powerful ones but still only quarter inch diameter and you dont see them.

No. But I have taken it off and put it back on and that was REALLY easy. If I can do it, anyone can.
