Default What's an FX-R?

I thought that the FXDX was the sportiest Big Twin. WHat's the dif between that and an FXR?

The FXR has an completely different frame. Some people say, the best frame and the best handling Harley ever. Harley stopped the FXR production because the frame was too expensive. In the late 90th Harley was building a few CVO FXRs - years after stopping the official FXR production.

The FXR frame and rubber engine mount system was designed by Erik Buell while he was an engineer at H/D.
It was the replacement for the solid mount 4 speed Superglide and first came out in 1982 with a Shovelhead engine and a 5 speed trans only.
Both models were built through 1985 with the FXR getting the new Evo engine in early 1984 while the solid mount 4 speed bikes retained the Shovelhead that year.
In 1985 both were made with the Evo engine though the Solid mount 4 speed Superglide is quite rare.
In the early 1990's the Dyna chassis was introduced with a more traditional look and was made along side the FXR through 1996.
A few limited edition FXRs were made through 2000 with the 2000 model being the last harley to have the Evolution engine.
The Twincam went in the Dynas in 1999 and the Twincam B went in the Softails in 2000, neither TC88 engine will fit in the FXR frame.
I had an early 1984 FXRS with the old style dry clutch (changed to wet clutch mid '84) and it was the lightest Superglide ever made with a dry weight of only 575lbs.
Great handling bikes IMO maybe the best handling big twin ever.

Here's my 90. And there's no dash in FXR. You can always tell them by the triangle in the frame just below the seat. That's what gives the frame its stiffness, which makes it so agile. It's a sportster front end mounted to a rubbermounted big twin chassis.
