Default Windshield

I am looking for a windshield for my 2006 D.Wide Glide and was wondering if there is anything I need to know beforehand (Things to avoid, things to make sure of, etc).
If anyone has one to sell, let me know.
Thanks,
Bob Nisbet

Stay away from over-priced, poor quality and imported H-D shields.. One of the best on the market is Memphis Shields...made in USA, good quality and high value. I have a MS shield on my 02 FXD since I bought new and am very satisfied.

The most important thing is shield height. Google "Youtube Windshield Sizing Tip of the Week" and you will get a short video on how to choose a size (happens to use Memphis Shades as an example). Most unhappiness in windshields is from too short (buffeting) and too tall (can't see over it).

Not being able to see over it may not seem to be much of a problem...until the first time you hit some fog. I have a Windvest and it works great.

I bought my windshield at the Harley shop when I bought the bike and like it a lot. I'd suggest a quick disconnect for sure and a height that you can easily look over. Mine measure 18-1/4" from top of headlight cut-out to the top edge, they clamp to the fork tubes, so have a few inches of adjustment.

Look at the Wind Vest shields. I had the detachable HD one and hated it. Debated for a long while then got the Wind Vest. This thing is amazing. Deflects the wind over my helmet. Don't think that because it is smaller that it won't work as well. It is better.
Many times I have seen bugs heading straight for me then when they get into the effects of the Wind Vest, they just go up and over. I will never take this thing off my bike whereas I would never put the HD one on my bike.

Check them out.

I have the HD detachable and like it. I can easily adjust the height of the windshield after changing seats so that I can see over it. Also easy to remove if I don't want it on. One problem I had was I broke one of the clamps the first time I used it and had to wait for a replacement clamp.

Just put a 14" tinted Windvest on my Streetbob. It actually looks pretty cool for a windshield and it works great. Though it is small, it took most of the wind off my chest and head. I liked it so much, I bought a used one in the classifieds here for my wife's Dyna.
