vibration problem solved
My 2012 FLD had the annoying vides from 2900 to 3600 RPM.
So for the past three months I just rode around that rev range no problem.
I have fitted the nightstick and heavy breather for sound and go, not as an attempt to cure the vibes. It made no difference to the vibrations.
A few weeks back decided to look at the mounting bolts as per suggested in one of the threads.
I backed off (loosened) the bolt that screws in at a 90 degree angle to the pipe under the can and screws into the bush that is rubber mounted in the exhaust mounting bracket. removed the bolt completly and then reinstalled it with some locktite but did not do it up hard. It's tight enough but I did not wrench on it hard and the locktite will keep it in there.
To be honest the clamp at the front of the can and the bolt at the rear of the can probably hold most of the weight and this bolt looked like a locator to prevent the unlikley event of the can sliding backwards off the pipe occuring.
End result problem solved, smooth vibes throughout the rev range now without that annoying extra vibe aroung 3000 rpm.

There is a service note (Switchback) to dealers for the clearance within the front motor mount. If you have heavy vibration, varies 2200-2800 on average - all gears, the tongue clearance is less than required. My bike was at zero and should have been 20-40 thousand, vibration was bad starting at 2500 RPM +. Changed the clearance per the factory service note and vibration is under control. I think I posted this previously in a different thread.

It's a PDF of Service Bulletin M-1324, which addresses vibration issues with All 1990 and later Dyna model bikes. That's a lot of bikes. It's dated May 16, 2012 so apparently this problem has been around for awhile. It deals primarily with the front engine mount (clearance mainly) and the muffler support bracket on FLDs, FXDFs and FXDWGs.
"..The purpose of this bulletin is to educate the technician on the
best method for resolving excessive vibration on Dyna model
motorcycles. The Dyna Glide engine isolator function can be
impaired by insufficient front engine isolator top radius clearance
and mount misalignment. The purpose of this procedure
is to create more clearance in the isolator system and improve
the isolator performance..."
I showed it to a service tech at my dealer when I took mine in for its 1000 mile service yesterday. When I first brought it up they claimed to not know anything about SB M-1324.
So I whipped out the copy I just happened to have in my back pocket - here ya go jack, now you know... geez.
Today he calls and said it's finished. I asked him what they found, as in did anybody verify the issue and did they fix it.
He just kinda shrugged and said "we did what the SB said to do..." which sounds suspiciously like he really doesn't know if they fixed it or not.
I can't say I like the sound of that.
I pick it up tomorrow AM...

Frickin parts changers!!!
A former co-worker did cams, exh, a/clnr and
re-map. It solved his vibe issues, but since he did it all at
once, he's not sure what cured it. It was bad before. He said
70 in 6th, was like a paint shaker.
So now I guess this thing is a frickin rocket ship, AND smooth
as glass!!
He's supposed to let me ride it next week.
It's an FLD by the way. Can't wait !!
