Default developed a short, help me locate

so last summer i changed the front end of my bike out (02 lowrider, put 02 fatboy front end) the install was straight forward, added 12" apes while in there, cut and spliced wires for internal wires. put the tank and everything back on, now when I ride, speedo and fuel gage come on, but by the time i shift to 3rd gear, the speedo and fuel gage have stopped working, short somewhere, I beleive its the three wire under the seat but not sure, as I hit the brakes speedo will come back on and then back off. Any suggestions on where to start looking?

I will be pulling tank soon for paint so my first look will be at the wires under there

Check your battery ground before you do anything. I hope you soldered those wires and didn't use connectors...
