Default How far can I go without a tune?

Long stort short the local stealership wants WAY to much money to tune my bike after putting in cams. I have a stage one with the sepst and has been dyno tuned for the stage one. My question is I will be getting the cams installed next week and its about 20 miles from my home so I have to drive it home without being re-tuned and I am thinking I am going to have it tuned at Fairbault Harley which is about 40 miles away from me. So needless to say my question is will I be ok putting these miles on without a correct tune for the cam? i would guess it just may not run the best of its capabilites but should not hurt anything correct? Thanks

40 miles? I don't see any problem. I have the TW-555 woodcam installed, rode it for more than 150miles with stock ecu, no problem and lots of power. Of course you will get the best out of it after a proper tune. My bike runs a lot smoother after my PV ecu reflash, I am still waiting for my next major performance mod and dyno tune it right.

Cool thanks, I was thinking the same thing but just wanted to make sure. Did not think it would be an issue but diff not want to find out the bad way either.

Its more about timing that fueling with cams on newer bikes. You need to swap to a map on the SEPST that matches the cams you fitted. You aren't going to find a canned one for a SEPST unless they were SE cams.

Chances are it's not going to blow up on the ride home but I definitely would not consider running it like that for any length of time.

The key is to move the throttle a lot. This makes the bike run richer. It's a trick for when you are at the wrong elevation on sleds. Any time you move the throttle off and on you get a little more fuel.

Is that allowing for the time difference and the lower air pressure?

So in all seriousness basically limit my travel before tune as much as possible, but the likely hood of it hurting anything if I stay say under 100 miles total before tune I should be just fine.
