Sounds suspicious like sabotage, usually there is tearing and loose strap material, unless I'm wrong and a carbon fiber belt has no threads inside.
Mine has 50K miles and no signs of wear on the belt. And I do not baby that bike she gets kicking all down the line!

The belt will last 100,000 miles.
Nomad has it right, my money is on hole shots.
It is more common in high horsepower belt driven bikes, but if you got a rock under it...
I was drinking a beer at the Main Street bridge in Daytona on a Saturday afternoon. A chopper starts across the bridge, pulls in the clutch, opens the her up and dumps the clutch. It was a hell of a burnout without a power brake.
100 yards later he pulled to a stop and did it again.
Third time he was halfway across the bridge. When he dumped the clutch the third time, the bike didn't go anywhere but the belt shot straight out the back.
He had to push that bad boy across a very long bridge to the other side.
I drank my cold beer and laughed my azz off.
