Default Drive Belt Damage?

My 09 Ultra will be my first belt driven scoot.

How many of you have had to replace the belt due to "damage" such as rocks or stones?

Any related belt stories?

None that I can share. On my old scoot 98 RK I had over 30k miles and belt looked great nice and tight. Pully looked good. Most of the stories I heard, which is not that many, a rock or an object go to the pully and that created a problem.

About 90K miles on two scoots with no problems. Much better than a chain.

I had a rock poke thru and then another score a gouge on the outside when the bike had low miles on it and service manager said it should be OK. Had about 85,000 miles on it before changing, did burn outs and bike pulls with it that way. Second belt had over 90,000 miles on it. The new belts are suppose to be even stronger.

Between my 01 Deuce, 07 Night Train, My Dad's 99 Koad King, My new 09 Street Glide, and numerous riding partners...I have never had first hand experience of anyone having any trouble with a drive belt.

The chain on my '83 FXWG Shovel...different story entirely! How embarrasing when it broke while showing off at a bar. Rest of my buds tipping back a couple brews while I'm changing a chain in the parking lot. That's what I get for acting like an idiot I guess...a lot younger then.

I intended on swapping mine out for the sidecar model since adding the car and also the 124" motor. Two shops told me not to bother due to them being pretty tough already. Time will tell.

Never replaced one in 13 years riding Harleys, and my last bike had 106k with the original belt when I traded it. I patched a rock hole in it with epoxy early in my ownership and it never deteriorated. For most of its life I applied Armor-All after each washing.

I inspect and clean the belt every time I wash the bike, then add some Armor-All or other silicone-based treatment.

iclick, I never heard of the Armor-All suggestion. Thanks for the tip!
