Default Those who have grinded down the kickstand on a lowered Dyna..Question ??

Put the Burly Slammer kit on my wife's Street Bob so she can reach the ground easier and now I need to grind the tab on the kickstand. My question is, do you need to paint it where you grind in off to protect from rust ? The stand is all chrome and I don't care what it looks like where it's grinded but does it need to be protected ? Thanks in advance..

If you grind the chrome off.....

It will rust over time.

Its just metal under the chrome. All metal oxidizes and will rust.
Coat it and you wont regret it.
Not talking about the part that atually rests on the pavement, that will always be grinding its self anyway.

Hope I answered correctly, its still early here ahahah

IMO for the time it takes to pull the jiffy stand (kickstand) off the bike and to grind it (which will cause heat damage), you could buy a shorter stand for a fair price from many manufactures and turn around and sell the original on e-auction sights for a good return price. Just my opinion

Thanks but... just took me 30 minutes to remove it, grind and replace it. Works perfectly. I'll save the $80 on a new one for something else.. Damage, really ?? I could touch the grind shortly after it was done. It got warm but not enough to cause any damage..

I replaced mine with a 1" shorter Jiffy Stand so that I had the original to put back on if I needed to.

By the way, a new 1" shorter Jiffy Stand from Drag Specialties is under $50
