Default Exhaust gasket question

Hand some friends who are much more mechanically inclined install some Vance and Hines Short Shots on my new 2014 Street Bob. One of the problems they seemed to run into was the gaskets that came with the pipes. When in place they didn't seem to fit and wouldn't tighten properly. Original pipes didn't have any crushed gaskets etc. When everything was said and done they didn't use them. Pipes sound great and don't seem to have any proplems and whatnot. Is this fine, regards to the gaskets not being used etc? Have a new 2014 Street Bob..

Its odd I know but sometimes the only way to get a seal is try the gaskets that they pipes came with, then stock crush gaskets (usually work best in my experience) and then SE flat gaskets.

So, if they got a good seal then you are good to go. Remember to re-torque the nuts once the heat has cycled a couple of times or you can get leaks or even have the flanges fall off.

the gaskets were in there! it looks like a perfectly curved piece of your head in there but you have to get them out with a pick or small screw driver. prior to installing the new gasket you should be looking at a perfectly flat, round suface which will receive the new gaskets. You just un-knowingly re-used the old ons. And it should be ok as long as you don't have a leak. For a test you can hold a lit cigarette near the exhaust flanges if you see the cig glow or the smoke being blown around you may need the remove your pipe and start over.

Do the test I told you about and you will be fine unless you have a leak.

they did not fit cause the stock gaskets where still in there. sometimes when you pull pipes it looks like they are not in there. basically it sounds like your reused the stock gaskets cause of this. may be fine may leak. just check for leaks and you should be fine, if you have leaks pull the stock ones out and put a new one in... i use a hook pick to remove gaskets they work great! you can get a set of 4 from harbor freight for like $2
