Default Removing Exhaust Gaskets

Hi Guys,
I removed my pipes to wrap them (check the photos ), now I am trying to remove the gaskets to replace them before I install the pipes, those gaskets are thick and stuck and are coming apart before they come out,

Do you guys think it is safe to use GAsket Remover on them ?

I appreciate your input

Regards

A.

No need to use gasket remover. Get a tiny flat blade screwdriver and stick it in between the head and the gasket. Or if the gaskets are starting to come apart just pull on the part that is coming apart and it will come out. Do not use gasket remover!

Ditto on the answer above. A small screwdriver will work fine. I picked up a set of dental picks at a gun show and they work very well for the gaskets.

They are mostly made of steel mesh so most gasket removers will only stain the cylinder and do nothing to help get them out.
I have used dental pics, small screwdrivers and even a sharp metal scribe along with a pair of needle nose pliers to get them out.
All you have to do is use something pointy or small to dig into the side and push enough of the mesh away from the outer wall for the pliers to get a good hold on it and you should be able to twist the pliers to collapse it and pull the whole thing out in one piece fairly easy.

PS the pipes are looking very nice, just make sure you post up some pics when you get them mounted or we'll have to give you twenty lashes with a wet noodle.

All above, thumbs up... I recommend getting yourself a pick set. No mechanic or DIYer should be without them. Many, many uses.... The second one from the left is the one I use for exhaust gaskets. Pops em right out....

Also, if you're upgrading exhaust and new "sliced" port gaskets aren't included, use the Screamin' Eagle ones, not stock. 17048-98 I think. A pair is around $14. They don't squish into the exhaust port. I still don't get why they use the tapered ones.
