2006 wide glide rear pulley failure
Hello folks, hope all is well...
This past Wednesday I took a trip from Maryland to Indianapolis with some brothers of mine. On the way home Sunday my rear pulley separated. My belt was in good shape, so we zip tied the steel belt retaining ring to my spokes, and we continued the rest of the 8 hour trip without issue. So I'm in the market for a new rear pulley. Can anyone advise how many teeth the stock pulley has, and is this a common issue??? Does Harley make a one piece by chance? I don't want to have this issue again! Any suggestions on a aftermarket pulley? Looking for reliability...it doesn't have to be pretty, just reliable!!!!
Thanking you in advance,
TD

Ill get one in a couple of hours . When I called the Harley dealer , they knew exactly what I was talking about. Like you, myself along with the 20 other guys . I was riding with had never seen or heard of this issue either.....

Actually is pretty common. The inside of the pulley is only a pressed on, then crimped piece of metal. If your belt is slightly mis-aligned, and puts constant pressure on the inside wall, this can happen.

I did the pics from my kindle fire....they look huge, not sure how they are going to show up on a desk top or lap top. As you can see in the first pic, the pressed on piece we zip tied onto the spokes. Then the other views show the inside of the pulley where it should be. I'm guessing I must have an alignment issue, as I think at 20,000 miles, that shouldn't have failed. Whoever said that is probably the issue, thank you, I wouldn't have known to start there. I did hear that Harley makes them as a one piece now, because of this issue. Any idea what a pulley costs?
Thanks again folks
