They're always moving dirt around here in those big Sidumper trailers. Damned things hit a bump and drop a few bucketloads of clods all over the road, bouncing around until they get ground down.

One would think.. Apparently the front bikes hit the brakes and bikes were crashing into bikes and running off the road and blood and gore and all hell broke loose. You know how that group ride crap can get bad in a hurry when people are asleep and bunched up.

Don't forget the newbies that have no business being in the front.

Something we started a couple years on an annual ride, was for me to take the less experienced riders. I do these because the wife gets motion sickness pretty easy. She usually attends this ride and I slow the pace a good bit. This has worked out well. I'll ask one that shows some common sense and decent skills to take the lead. Ask him to study the route on a map and wife and I stay at the back.Last year I took the road captain position half way cause the fella just got to nervous There are pros and cons even to this but it worked well for the time. YMMV
The year before we had 2 serious accidents, 1 because of a newbie to the curves was trying to keep up and the other grabbed the front brake in some leaves that had come off a trash trailer.
I had to learn too, guess I fortunate to have had the time to practice with an older rider and on my own
