Thanks guys I'll have to buy an 89 starter and hope it fits. It will take to much work and money to find the parts the 83 came with this is what I bought and I found out after its was parts from a 89 after the starter crapped out. And idea what the heads are from it says jegs on the very to but I didnt think they made heads it's had 3 bolts flange I pulled off some number casted on them 030482 on one and the other says 0672 no clue what that means.

Looking at you clutch it is different from my 89 fxr. My 89 had this adjustment cam that sat on the outside of the clutch pack and was held in by bolts. IIRC I had 3 different settings (A,B and C).
I don't see that on your clutch for what it's worth your setup may be newer than 89.

What do you mean by for what it's worth? I'll have to do some more research and figure out what's on it.

I would say the transmission is 87 or later, based on the clutch cable/throw out bearing.

Worth a Google.....
This is good advise. Look for a starter repair shop in your area and give them a call. That way you know it will fit, know where to go locally if you have a problem and save a few bucks in the long haul.

Starter repair shop or a place that rewinds electric motors should be able to rebuild your starter. When you have parts from different things, it is often easier to fix what you know works rather than try to buy something new that may or may not work.

In this case, your engine is not an Evo, but your primary and who knows what else is newer than your engine.

You have a mid 90's clutch... someone just did some updates to your bike. You very likely have a splined mainshaft and all the middle 90's evo hardware in your trans as well.

I know that my 89 had a different clutch setup, that doesn't mean that starters in the late 80s early 90s wouldn't work. For all I know the starter used could be the same part covering a few years.
I just happened to notice your clutch is different from what I had on my 89 FXR.
Also your starter looks like the ones in those E-Bay links
Part# 31570-89A

Check this out http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...e-14kw-starter That fits 1994-2008

This helps vvvvv

You should be able to read the casting numbers off of the inner primary and go from there if all the other info hasn't panned out by now.

That clutch looks extremely similar to my 98 and so does the starter.
