Hey Fellas
I am needing to change out my front wheel bearings on my King. This will be the 1st time I have done this. Could someone walk me through the process please. I do not have a service manual, I would rather buy the bearings. ha
I am looking to do this in a week or 2 (weekends) and would like a good idea of what I am getting in to.

my bike is a '96 stock cast wheels.
Looking at getting the bearings and seals, anything else I would need?
I will update thread with my progress as I can.

The factory service manual! There is no substitute for reading through what needs to be done and having the correct info close at hand, exactly when you need it. The MoCo publish it so it doesn't have to be rewritten every time someone wants to do something.

What makes you think that you need new bearings?

 

I have a grinding noise coming from it, more than the normal caliper noise. Also getting a chirp.

NOTE: I understand the Factory service manual would come in handy. I don't not have the resources to buy one.

 

What is a sure way to check them to find out if the do need replacing?

 

Lift the front wheel off the ground, so you can turn it by hand and hear/feel it closely. Lever the pads away from the rotors, so they don't make any noise, so you can concentrate on the bearings.

 

Clean them completely, visually inspect and repack them and install per the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL () and try them out. You'll know quick enough...

 

The manual costs about the same as one hour's labour at a dealer or indy. The first hour's work you do referring to it, like servicing your bearings, you get your money back. The second time it's free. You can't afford to be without it!

 

Here is what you got. Need an indicator for end play to determine your shims. Also sealed just in case yours has been converted...

 

Will they need to be pressed back in?
