Default LED turn signal flasher instead of load equalizer for LED signals?

What the title asks. I have an 88 FLST. Using LED turn signals front and rear. Was told by an electronics guy I work with that I don't have to use a load equalizer if I replace my turn signal flasher with an LED unit. Any experience or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

I installed a badlands flasher unit in my 93. It was a plug and play replacement for my self cancelling flasher that stopped flashing. It supposedly can handle up to 9 or 10 LEDS or something. I don't have any LEDs yet.

I have self cancelling flashers that work with my speedo, so I had to go with the equalizers.
I just needed 2, 1 for the right, 1 for the left. I did use the LED relay in my truck though.

Take a look at Badlands, they make a wide range of suitable devices. You are adapting an elderly vehicle to accept a quite modern product, with LEDs, and there may not be any other form of suitable product that will do the job. Current vehicles, including Harleys, that use LEDs also use Canbus electrics.

I used a badlands controller on my 95 flht. It works but the flasher cancels way too soon.

Your 88 has the flasher cubes like my bikes and a car, right? Not the fancy control module? If so, you just need a modern flasher unit from the auto parts store. Costs a couple bucks. That's what I did on both bikes. I have LED's on the front on both bikes and the flasher units from the local auto parts store. I think putting load resistors across LED's kinda defeats the purpose (low power consumption).

Yes! This is the flasher unit I am using. Hope to have everything together and start testing in a few weeks.

And thanks to everyone for your replies.

I get like 9 flashes, but it's enough to let the cage behind me know that's why I'm slowing down.

For those bikes with the timer on the flashers, you simply have to disconnect the white/green wire that goes to the speedo. You can then press to turn them on, press to turn them off - no finding yourself in the middle of the road with no flashers!
