Default Need help with removing clutch basket '88 Softail

Can anyone tell me how to get the primary clutch basket off my '88 without disassembly of the clutch? I need to change the starter pinion gear but I have to remove the clutch basket to do so. I already puller the lock ring, nut and pushrod. but the basket wont budge. I saw a few videos that show guys putting minimal effort int pulling it off

If I remember right you have the tapered shaft basket.

You will need a 3 jaw puller to get the clutch basket off.

You need the puller tool. I've done it with a 2 or 3 jaw on a shovelhead, but best to use the right tool. Parts are not as plentiful as they were 30 years ago.

I have the manual, but I must not be very smart because this is kicking my ***. All I want to do is change the starter pinion so I can ride the damn thing

use a proper puller its comes off easily

got a 4 speed clutch hub puller, holes on it, are close enough that it works on the 5 speed hub

I was a lot braver 30 years ago with the 3 jaw. The 4 speed puller will work if you drill an extra hole. They probably all come with the extra hole in them now.
