Default 1997 Roadking primary capacity

I am doing primary oil change for a friend 97 RK, what's the primary case capacity? When I drained it, it's like 3 quarts lol. Isn't it like 1 qt?

It used to be to the bottom of the inspection window, like mine. I think it was 1990 they changed to the bottom of the clutch basket, like HB said. Someone may have owned an older bike and assumed it was the same. Or, you might have crank case oil draining into you primary, that would be bad.

Its under a quart for sure...if its very black it could be motor oil is getting in there from the crank seal.

I put 1 1/2qt and the oil touches the bottom of the clutch basket. Thanks!

You're not addressing a very serious issue... if 3 quarts dropped out of there you need to pull the primary assembly and check the crank seal.

Good suggestion! I will tell him. BTW I found small pieces on the tensioner, they look like ground aluminum. He could be in trouble, either way the primary case has to come off. Thanks for heads-up!
