Default Transmission leaking again!

Well my transmission has started leaking again! I just had this apart in January to address a transmission leak and now I'm back at it again.... The first time was because the inner race had walked and took out the main shaft seal. I replaced all the seals w/ cometic ones while I was in there and also put in a new main drive gear spacer (Baker). I probably got 300-400 miles on it before it started leaking. I just got it all apart and the big seal is the one that is leaking this time. The sprocket was tight. It was not leaking from that seal when I was in there in January just the main shaft. Any thoughts as to why it went bad so quickly?

Sometimes when you disturb an old seal that was holding it will start to leak.
It's best to replace all the seals you can when fixing something.

Did you replace the quad seal ?

When re-installing the pulley nut , if the pulley turns while torqueing the nut , the quad seal can roll or be torn . It can appear to be high gear seal leaking .

Yes, I did replace the quad seal as well. I'm waiting for the new seals to arrive before I pull the old seals. I'll take a really good look when they come out.

I like to use an o-ring grease on the quad seal to prevent rolling or tears . It doesn't hurt on the seals as well . Good luck man hopefully you'll get it solved .

I had a leak after upgrading to a newer style pulley and spacer, that looked just like your picture.
It took about the same mileage to show itself.

The pulley/spacer kit I used was aftermarket(Andrews).

The problem on mine was the beveled part of the spacer, that makes room for the quad seal, was too small, or short. It squeezed the quad ring too tight and made it pinch inbetween the spacer and the main drive gear bearing and also not let the spacer seat against the bearing.

So I bought a new spacer (33344-94)from harley, and when compared to the andrews spacer I was using, the bevel was obviously larger, Problem solved.

So compare your new and old spacer bevel size.

Might save you some headaches.

how do the splines on the main gear and drive pulley look? if either one looks worn you're going to have to replace it. the pulley never gets tight if the splines are worn. i chased a trans leak for a whole summer once. i had to replace the main gear and pulley to cure the leak.

If the spacer is not new there could be grooves in it and these will tear the seal apart.
