S&S 124" Project
Hi, new to the site. I am going to do a project this fall on my 95' Fat Boy. I am going to put a 124 S&S crate engine in it , going to have the R&R stage IV head work done, the Super "G" bored and a T-Jet installed, upgrade the clutch to S&S performance clutch, I am going to run 2" Cycle Shack 2 into 2 exhaust system. I plan on converting it to a chain final drive. Looking for 130 plus HP and 140 TQ. Is anyone running the S&S 124? If so what has been your experience with the engine. This will not be a bar hopper, bike is a cruiser 500 mile days. Thanks in advance.

RE: S&S 124" Project
You should have no problem getting those numbers..My concern for you is this though, I have a friend who's got a fatboy that we did a 124 with R&R heads, bored TB Etc...it is deffinatley not a long haul bike...Its got crazy power and torque and revs super fast, great light to light, but not a good long ride bike. Think about whats most important to you and make a good decision. Good luck and enjoy!!

RE: S&S 124" Project
You'll get those numbers from a crate 124 without spending the money on the heads. I just put a 124" Twincam in a custom bagger that is built for the long haul too. I'm not worried at all about the motor. It is coupled to a Baker DDR6 which will help in the long run for miles/rpm. I have over 60K miles on a Twincam 116" (which has the same flywheels as the 124") and have had no issues with motor. I'd seriously rethink spending the money on the heads, at least right now... The new S&S 124" with anti-spark knock have a full 24 month warranty. I bought mine about 6 months ago and only have a 12 month warranty.

RE: S&S 124" Project
We just saw some un-tuned dyno results faxed, today, from our EFI tuner in regards to a 124" with our Stage II S/E HTCC heads(client provided), a Bob Wood TW-9BG, and S&S Twin 50 mm Fuel injection.
The Fatcat(client had that pipe)is showing that is proving veryharmful for peak hp to occur, but it is still showing 154 ft/lbs at 3000and 129 hp at 5200.Tune is incomplete. Also the VPC clutch won't hold much more as it is rated for around 150 ft/lbs. Engine is running at 185*. It DOES NOT get hot.
We have a very good idea where it would go, if the S&S145" T/body was to be ulitize along with a Borezilla and a Bandit clutch. Daily driver, drive it anywhere you want, very tame, straight forward build. Another day here. Onto the next.
