Default Mufflers keep sliding back.

&nbsp\\; I put some new Rinehart slipons on my Road King last weak. Love the pipes but the new muffler clamps do not seem hold tight enough. I torque them as hard as I can but they still move. If I use the&nbsp\\;original clamps, they hold nice and tight, however they are rusty and look like crap. Any suggestions?

Try some Ultra Copper high temp sealant and let it cure for 24 hrs.&nbsp\\; Make sure your getting the proper torque on the clamps.&nbsp\\; Its 45 to 55 ft pds on my Dyna and it took some effort with a 1/2" torque wrench to get 50ft pds.

I had this problem, finally o/k now, I waited overnight to make sure all was cool, clamp contracted, then put some medium strength LocTite on the nut and cranked it down.

Put on a new set of OEM clamps from the dealer.&nbsp\\; There is not an aftermarket clamp out there that works as well.&nbsp\\; Torque to spec and you're good.

The clamp needs to be near the front edge of the muffler.&nbsp\\; If it isn't very close to the front edge, the clamp doesn't compress the flange enough.

I reused my old clamps and they were rusty too.&nbsp\\; I bought some Naval Jelly at auto parts store and it cleaned up the old clamps like new.&nbsp\\; However it also removes the galvanizing or what ever the factory clamps are treated with.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Anyway, that stuff will take rust off of anything.&nbsp\\; I cleaned the old ones up nice and shiney and then sprayed them with wd40.&nbsp\\; Its been a couple of years and I'll spray them every now and then with wd40 and they haven't rusted.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Service manual says the clamps should not be reused but mine have held up well.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; You could probably paint the old clamps after cleaning with some high temp paint in color of your choice.&nbsp\\;
