Maybe you could use the "thick phillips screwdriver through the spark plug hole" method.

Put down the car manual and pick up one for the HD. What's the point of letting oil "drain down" when the oil is stored in a separate tank, not in a sump?

You don't need screwdriver, use wrench for brain adjustment, you need that.

I'm not sure about your 99. But most touring bikes DO drain down a little due to the oil tank is under the engine. Not much for sure if any.... engine is a dry sump oiling system and not much at all should go to the tank with gravity.

Just pull the dipstick when cold, if you see oil, you are good to go to warm up the bike and properly check it.

You need to buy two books. A service manual, and a parts manual. AND... the parts manual is NOT the chrome book at a HArley shop, but is a specific book that shows each part installed on a stock bike as it comes from the factory. The two books combined can show you quite a bit on how the crap goes together AND what specs to use while assembling and servicing them.

We had a neighborhood kid that our kids caught him porking his dog in the a$$. That kid moved to florida. Maybe you know him? I see that u have a PCIII? I thought our bikes didn't need such? That the puter would throw out a code if it's lean? That I cain't speall ma name roight? You ARE that kid aren't you? Woof Woof Do you know anyone that chases dogs around with red locktite on the handle of a big thick phillips? And the dog is running for dear life? Do you hold your 'big thick phillips' like bill murray did in Caddy Shack with the ball cleaner machine? Poor f***ing dog.

You guys KILL me!!!

I shall now go to the wood shed.
