Polishing the rough area of the lower fork legs
Can this rough area be polished smooth? Or, am I SOL?

Can be done. Do you have power tools?

I have an electric buffer/polisher and an air compressor. Also a bench grinder.

that was gonna be my suggestion as well. two benefits: one, you get nice chrome forks and two, he polishes the forks smooth all the way around. unlike hd.

Yes ,use a flexible sanding block,wet or dry sandpaper and a big bucket of elbow grease.

Picked up a pair of polished lowers pretty cheap on ebay before installing Progressive fronts. It looks great with chrome wheels and rotors.

Took mine off and sent them to a metal polisher. Rotor and forks $80.

if they are very old or have alot of miles on them ,this would be a good time to replace seals and bushings.

If I did not already have chrome I would have had them painted the same base color of my bike that should be out of paint shop next week. You will find a lot more chrome lowers than those matching bike.
