Default Keep your head out of your ***!!!!

Even though I get into online arguments with some of my fellow HD Forum Brothers and Sisters I do truly wish safe travels for all of you.

Today while traveling down highway 385 between Deadwood and Needles Highway I found myself paying more attention to the fantastic scenery of the Black Hills than the road and failed to see a stopped truck.

Thanks to the grace of God without thinking I took to the shoulder and passed the truck on the right going about 60 mph.

There's no doubt I had my head up by *** and my lack of attentiveness could have not only cost me my life but also the life of my wonderful Wife of 32 years.
Fortunately my Wife was also taking in the scenery and didn't see how close we were to ended our vacation not only early but tragicly.

So to all my fellow brothers and sisters out there, during all your travels don't forget to keep your head out of you ***!!!!!

Ride Safe!!!

Lack of attention can happen very easily, especially in a place like that. Glad it worked out for you. Thank your guardian angel tonight.

Thanks for the PSA, I've caught myself in the same boat and it's good to be reminded now and again.

My wife gets to look around but I only get to look forward, which is the best way.

On our first ride on the new bike, the road we were on had another road merge into it, so you need to look to the left and behind to see if anything is coming. When I did, my wife started doing an OMG, OMG. As I was looking forward, it was just in time to see a local yocal pulling out in front of us, to get into the oncoming lane. The ABS did it's job and we slowed down enough to avoid him and we both let him know he was "#1".

Glad you rode out your mistake. I had to take to the shoulder once when I took a curve too fast. Was exciting, but, like you said, I could have prevented being in that situation, by not daydreaming.
