keeping replacement hockey pucks closed on police saddlebags
I bought/installed police saddlebags onto my heritage.
They had the flush type push button latches.
Common complaint is they won't stay closed or are undependible, which is true.
Mine weren't as solid as I cared for.
I fixed by modifying with jbweld and magnets and L bracket.
They now shut solid, like a car door.
Didn't know if anyone cared about this or not.
If so, I'll put up instructions for what I did

I used magnets from hard drives cuz they're flat and the strongest, typically N48-N52..or so.
Lay one magnet on top of the strike that's attached to the bag. Measure that combined thickness.
Memorize that number
The L bracket will be attached to the threaded body of the latch.
Make a gap (between the top of the L bracket and the plastic latch) the same measurement as what you memorized.
The strike will fit between the plastic latch and the L bracket.
L bracket: : cut one leg the length as the body of the latch, , cut the other leg the same length as what the plastic latch protrudes when fully extended.
Zip tie the modified L bracket below the plastic latch; directly in line with it. Making sure that the gap is correct and not too tight..the strike needs to fit in between.
Cut the magnets the width of the L bracket and stack several together..about 3/8"thick high, maybe 4-6 pieces.
Using JBWeld putty over the zip tied assembly, including the attached magnets, leaving the memorized gap space clean..
Make sure the **** still turns the latch fine..let sit for an hour or so.
The magnet that is on top of the strike doesn't need to be glued at all.
It won't move, there's no stress on it..
Operation when open: : close lid. The plastic latch retracts traveling over the strike. As lid closed against the top of the bag bottom, the plastic latch is also fully extended..now the strike (including it's magnet) is between the plastic latch and the L bracket/magnet JB WELD assembly..
the magnets are strong and hold securely very well, yet when you turn the ****, the lid lifts easily..
After assembly, I cut a hose clamp, drilled holes and screwed each end over the entire latch assembly,
Using the two machine screws that pass thru the lid.. then tightened the hose clamp..
Now this whole completed assembly should be smooth strong dependable and last
I hope this makes sense
